Call for abstracts
We invite contributions that address issues in syntax in one or several
Uralic languages (as well as their contact languages) in any theoretical
framework. Abstracts on any relevant topic are welcome, but this year, we
particularly encourage submissions dealing with:
- (morpho)syntax of postpositions and relational nouns;
- syntax of discourse particles;
- syntax of mood, modality and evidentiality;
- non-verbal predication patterns;
- pro-drop;
- contact phenomena in syntax;
- variation and geographical distribution of syntactic features within
one language;
- interaction between formal and functional approaches in the analysis
of language data.
Abstract submission
Abstracts should be anonymous (with no self-references). They should not
exceed two pages (including examples, figures, and references), using
1in/2.5cm margins and a standard 12pt font. It might be worth considering
these guidelines when writing an abstract:

<http://web.mit.edu/fintel/Rooryck&vanHeuven.pdf>.
One person may submit up to two abstracts: one as a single author or
co-author, and another one as a co-author.
Abstracts should be submitted to the conference email address
soul5conf at gmail.com as PDF files. Please indicate the following in the body
of your email:
- your name(s);
- title of your paper;
- your affiliation(s);
- your email(s);
- if you need an invitation (e.g. for a visa).
Selected papers from the conference will be published by the Journal of
Uralic Linguistics (*https://benjamins.com/catalog/jul

About SOUL
The Syntax of Uralic Languages (SOUL) is a biennial conference that first
took place in Oulu in 2015. Its goal is providing a forum where researchers
of Uralic languages working in different paradigms could exchange ideas and
discuss their research and data. The talks at the previous SOUL conferences
have covered a wide range of topics in both synchronic and diachronic
(morpho)syntax in all branches of the Uralic language family, and presented
empirical evidence and analyses in both formal and functional frameworks.
We believe that bringing together scholars who apply different approaches
to comparable data will lead to a fruitful dialogue and mutual enrichment.
Programs of the previous three conferences can be found here:
