Dear All,

Vienna is looking for a successor to Jeremy Bradley – good people with a relatively recent PhD and expertise in Finno-Ugric studies (also including Uralic minority languages) are cordially invited to apply for our postdoc position in Finno-Ugric language studies: https://jobs.univie.ac.at/job/University-Assistant-postdoctoral/1209657701/ . This is mainly a research position, basically for writing your Habilitation thesis and generally contributing to the research output and visibility of our department, but you will also be expected to teach a couple of courses each semester, also courses in “minor Uralic languages” as required in our curriculum. Good knowledge of German is a significant advantage, and at least we expect a readiness to acquire practical German skills ASAP.

The position is announced for three years, starting with October 1, 2025. (Application deadline: June 30.) Regrettably, we cannot promise any extensions to the contract, probably (this is just my educated guess at the moment) because the professor’s position will also be vacant in a couple of years, and the new holder of the chair will have to negotiate about an assistant’s position. What should be possible in any case is to use those three years for creating a successful application for a research project with external funding, which could be hosted by our department.

For more information about our department, you can always visit our website: finno-ugristik.univie.ac.at <http://finno-ugristik.univie.ac.at/> . If you have any questions, feel free to contact me – and in any case, please spread the word!

Best
