Dear subscribers,

The deadline for paper submissions to IWCLUL 2025 in Joensuu was extended to Sunday this week, see https://acl-sigur.github.io/iwclul2025.html.

I also want to inform you about the pre-conference Workshop on “Resources and Tools for Computational Work on Karelian and Other Small Uralic Languages”, scheduled Wed, Dec 10th 14-18. As with IWCLUL, there is no participation fee.
This workshop brings together linguists – with or without a computational background – to discuss effective strategies for building resources (spoken and written corpora, taggers, parsers, learner applications, etc.) for languages such as Karelian, which currently lag far behind in language technological development.

Participants are invited to share their own ongoing work through short, informal position papers or presentations, or to join simply for the discussions.

No abstract submission is required, but please submit your preliminary title as a Lightning Talk via the conference page<https://acl-sigur.github.io/iwclul2025.html>. (When filling out the submission form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdAHO3owk8fgFb4d4nK7fcqpBMgcpUhB7EyvzIxGlDFetH7kg/viewform>, please add “Karelian workshop” in the field for Lightning talks.)

Note that there is no strict deadline for proposing topics to this workshop.

Best,

--
