Dear Colleagues,
This information is not purely academic. But I hope you allow me to post it to this group.
The Selkup Daria Egereva, a language activist but best known as Co-Chair of the International Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change, was detained in December and awaits trial in Moscow. You can find more information online or read the open letter by the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs.

International publicity will help Dasha (and other political prisoners), e.g. by raising the threshold for the regime to apply torture in prison. Therefore, I've started collecting sources to prepare for a Wikipedia article in different languages. Here is my German-language draft: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Rie%C3%9Fler/Werkstatt/Daria_Egereva.
I have not yet published because the threshold for a topic to qualify for a standalone article in the German and English-language Wikipedias is quite high, and I do not want to rush the publication. If an article is not sufficiently well prepared and supported by reliable sources, it may be deleted by other Wikipedians.
For the time being, I have created a data item in Wikidata (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138341945) and added brief biographic summaries in the German and English articles on the Selkup people (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selkupen#Darja_Anatoljewna_Jegerewa and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selkup_people#Daria_Anatolyevna_Egereva).
I have also linked from the following thematic articles
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Indigenous_Peoples_Forum_on_Climate_Change
- https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigene_kleine_V%C3%B6lker_des_russischen_Nordens
- https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAIPON
and will continue finding topical links.
If you are supportive and familiar in Wikipedia work, you may consider this platform for making information about this case available. I believe that the threshold for an article to be considered publishable is considerably lower in, for instance the Estonian, Finnish and Norwegian Wikipedias. But keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a platform for campaigns, but only for encyclopaedic, neutral, and objective information. If you like, you can use my German-language draft and translate. Alternatively, you could take my biographic summary in the article about the Selkups for inspiration. If you don't know how Wikipedia works but want to learn, send me a message and I help you.
If someone happens to know Dasha personally and has done a photograph, I urge them to publish under CC-BY in Wikimedia Commons. I can give advice if you don't know how this works.
If you want to reach out to me personally, I recommend you don't send a list message but use my Signal: meehkal.84
You can also send a personal message to Dasha via http://daria-egereva.org
Best,
Micha
