UPDATE
The South Asia Regional Studies Department at the University of
Pennsylvania is now scheduled to offer a beginning-level Pashto
course in Spring semester, 2002. The course will be directed by Dr.
Benedicte Gantry, and will be 2 semester-unit (accelerated) elementary
course, offering a year's worth of instruction in one semester. It will
meet 2 hours daily for five days a week. Students or others not currently
registered at the University of Pennsylvania may enroll in this course
through the Penn Language Center and Penn's College of General Studies.
The course to look for is SARS-291 INTENSIVE BEGINNING PASHTU which will
be a 2CU course. Time of day is still not determined, but probably 9 - 11
daily.
In Summer 2002 the South Asia Regional Studies Department, through the
Penn Language Center, also plans to offer Intensive Beginning Pashtu and
an intensive Intermediate level course for students who have completed the
equivalent of SARS-291.
For further information and instructions on how to enroll in these
courses, go to http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/~haroldfs/pedagog/pashto/ and
follow the instructions given there. This course is open to currently-
enrolled Penn students as well as others, including non-students, not
enrolled in degree programs at Penn.
