Dear Oranskaia,
Thank you for your interest in Nepal's languages. As published in Kantipur Daily [Nepal's largest vernacular daily of April 15, 2005], the proposed 10 MTs are Tibeti, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Rai, Limbu, Gurung, Magar, Thakali, Tharu and Tamang. The government has designated them 'local languges' instead of 'Mother Tongues' but the Constitution says them 'mother tongues'. These languages are proposed for intermediate level of education.
Additionally, Urdu is also taught in intermediate level. Maithili, Nepali, Newari, Sanskrit and Hindi are taught upto Masters' level in Tribhuvan University.
This is a good start, I think. I sincerely thank the Government of Nepal for its concern about mother tongue preservation.
Sincerely yours,
BKR
