Dear Hal,

is it known how respectful this edition is
of the various prefaces which editions 1., 2. and 3. may have contained)

I am having (on my shelf)

-- the 1976 reprint by the University of Madras) of the 3rd edition
[said to have been already reprinted [by the same] in 1956, 1961, 1976]

-- the [UNDATED] reprint by the /Oriental Books Reprint Corporation/
(also allegedly based on the 3rd edition
[but stating on the backside of the 3rd physical page
"First Indian Edition 1974"
  which is certainly wrong])

I would certainly like to know precisely what the differences between
the various editions (1., 2. & 3.) are.

Caldwell's books are nowadays only of historical value
(except in Tamil Nadu where they are of Biblical value for a few devotees!)

Cheers

-- Jean-Luc
