distinctions among 'labels' (was either/patio/envelope)

I would be very interested to know under what conditions you used which
pronunciation --

 How do those of us who say both EYEther and EEther and ENvelope and
 ONvelope fit into the scheme?  I've never said nor heard anything but
 PATTY-oh - so I can't comment on that one.
