I've been trying to figure that out myself, actually.  So far, it
seems pretty arbitrary - unless somebody else has said one or the
other immediately preceeding my saying it - in which case I usually
pronounce it the way the other person pronounced it.  The difficult
part is catching what one says oneself while one isn't paying
attention...
