JALAPENO POPPERS

OED has "jalapeno" from 1949; Merriam-Webster has 1939. Nothing on the American Periodical Series. NEW YORK TIMES full text has nothing when I checked pre-1960! I'll try to beat that later today with Henry Howard Harper's A JOURNEY IN SOUTHEASTERN MEXICO: NARRATIVE OF EXPERIENCES AND OBSERVATIONS ON AGRICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL CONDITIONS (1910). If it's not missing, that is.
Emeril is now featuring "jalapeno poppers" (www.foodtv.com). I've seen this around a lot, but it's a trademarked name. See below:

FAMILIAR LETTERS OF FLITTINGS 'ROUND NAPLES, CITY OF SWEET-DO-NOTHING
By An American Girl (Katherine Phelps Lynch--ed.)
New York: The Alice Harriman Company
1912

No "espresso." No "pizza." The book doesn't even have any sex.

Pg. 10: ...gelato napolitan.

Pg. 48: And by the way, does Giovanni still make the delectable dish of _pasta con pomidoro_?

Pg. 66: But _Turino_ chocolates, _carino mio_, are a something which anyone knowing their great perfection, will not allow to long lie unclaimed.

Pg. 112: ..._gelati_...

Pg. 211: _Fritto misto_ being a mysterious Italian dish of brains and artichokes and heaven knoweth what not!

Pg. 283: Little towns where chains of golden _pasta_ are forever drying in the hot sun--_pasta_ in all sorts of forms and sizes running from thread-like variety called Hairs of Angels!--_Capilla degli angeli_--to great heavy tubing like a garden hose...

Pg. 302: ...sweet _frittata_ (omelet)...
..._grissini_, the long crisp sticks of bread.
