A melting pot was also used in glass making.  A search of MOA Cornell
results in items that refer to either glass making or metal work.

In glue making, there was the glue-pot, in which a variety of items
might be placed, but I don't know that the process could be termed
melting.  Probably wouldn't have caught on to say that a given culture
or society was a glue-pot.
