Better yet, since the possessive "Toni Morrison's" is the logical and
grammatical equivalent of "of Toni Morrison," recast the sentence as "The
genius of Toni Morrison enables her to write well." Now it is clear that
"her" is perfectly unambiguous and acceptable.
