GREEK PASTRY (continued)

No CHICAGO TRIBUNE at NYU. In the meantime, here are some ProQuest hits for Greek pastries.
Notice 1969's "rogoloff" for "rugelach." The spellings make foreign food words such an adventure to search for.

(PROQUEST HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS)
International Patio Party Held for Servicemen
Los Angeles Times (1886-Current File). Los Angeles, Calif.: Dec 8, 1952. p. A11 (1 page):
Refreshments consisted of purely Greek dishes, including keftethes, pastichio, spanakopita, kourabiethes and karithopita, which GI guests found to be meat balls, a hot cheese dish, spinach pie, powdered cookies and honey nut cake.

Family Picnic
By Elinor Lee. The Washington Post and Times Herald (1954-1959). Washington, D.C.: Jul 2, 1954. p. 57 (1 page):
Then there are those luscious vine leaves stuffed with meat which they call Dolmathes or Yiaprakia. A Greek pastry called Diples that simply melts in the mouth. Galatoboureko (Cream Pie), made by Mrs. P. Theodor, son John;s mother-in-law is another piece d'resistance of this menu.

Food: Two Bakeries; Bread and Pizza Sold in New Shop --Near Eastern Pastries in Subway
By JUNE OWEN. New York Times (1857-Current file). New York, N.Y.: Apr 2, 1957. p. 60 (1 page):
Kataif, for example, looks like a miniature shredded wheat. For it, the thin pastry is cut into narrow strips no wider than a match stick. The strips are wrapped around a nutty filling.
Afali is a round, flaky pastry, also with honey and finely ground nuts, that has a sprinkling of chopped pine nuts on top. The same ingredients go into the seraglis that are rolled like jelly rolls then sliced into individual pieces. All these pastries are 20 to 25 cents each.
From Athens, the shop imports Carras' kourabils, rich, crumbly cookies dusted with confectioners' sugar. Though similar cookies are made by Near Easterners in this country, the imports follow the authentic recipe that calls for butter made from sheep's milk rather than cow's milk.

Crowd Vacationed At Gay Panegyri
The Washington Post, Times Herald (1959-1973). Washington, D.C.: Sep 25, 1963. p. B5 (1 page):
One-hundred-twenty-five women in the kitchen crew whipped up Greek delicacies such as baklava, karithopeta, loukoumades.

Tomorrow There'll Be a Chance to Buy Some of Brooklyn's Best Baked Goods
By JEAN HEWITT. New York Times (1857-Current file). New York, N.Y.: May 12, 1969. p. 56 (1 page):
And so, Irish soda bread, rogoloff (Jewish nut pastries), German chocolate cake, Swedish cookies and American applie pies will be on sale next to ravani (Greek cake) and diples (fried, honey-dipped pastries), melomacarona (honey cookies) and kourabiethes (butter tea cookies).
(...)
Before 5 P.M. that evening, the four of them had whipped up mountains of diples, hundreds of koulourakia me sousame (semsame seed cookies) and dozens of pans of baklava and galatoboureko (Greek pastries made with paper-thin layers of phyllo pastry).
(...)

S & M THAI STYLE (shrimp and mussels); FUN IN BLACK (Pad See Yu)

I just ate at the Lemongrass Grill, 80 University Place at 11th Street. I didn't have "S & M Thai Style" or "Fun in Black" but thought they were worth mentioning, even if there aren't many Google hits..."Thai Me Up" isn't listed, for some reason.
