As in def. 2 (unfinished) of a forthcoming issue of The Barnhart
DICTIONARY COMPANION:

2. any similarly important issue to a family.

DOLAN: What we talk about now might not be implemented for another year or
so. The things that we're trying to implement now, they were talked about
before I came on board. Once the bishops vote on something, then it's
sent to Rome, then it comes back and it's codified and all. Whenever you
speak of the liturgy, that's a kitchen-table issue, especially when it
gets to very practical things like holy days of obligation, the age of
Confirmation, the posture at Mass, the words we use in praying, all those
things. "Dolan prepares for fall bishops' meeting," and interview with
Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan in the Catholic Herald [Milwaukee], Nov. 7,
2002, <http://www.chnonline.org/2002-11-07/newsstory8.html>

David
