see some discussion in Michael Quinion's World Wide Words (#796 of 4 August, #797 of 11 August) of "-lily words".  the choices are "cowardlily" (ouch), "cowardly" as an adverb, or avoidance of the adverb by means of a PP ("in a cowardly manner and apathetically", "apathetically and in a cowardly manner", "in a cowardly and apathetic manner").
