While watching "This Old House" I ran across:
John S. Scott _The Dictionary of Civil Engineering 4th edition_ NY: Chapman and Hall 1993. P 413

"snots Leakages of cement
paste through formwork which create unsightly blobs on the face of the
concrete."

Brick Development Association _The BDA Guide to Successful Brickwork
Third Edition_ Oxford: Butterworth –
Heinemann, 2005. p 103

"Clean all mortar snots off the rear face of the brickwork and off
the ties and foundation area."

_Period House_ [UK magazine] Jun 2003 p 102

"Snots, for the uninitiated, are those grotty little bits of
mortar that besmirch the front of your brick if you're clumsy with your
trowel."
