Similar?  I heard a local Boston TV news announcer talk about the "new changes" for this year's First Night celebration.

Back in the day, we spent the first eight years of our scholastic life with
teachers using everything at their command short of physical punishment to
force us pupils absolutely *never* to use "first begin" in any way, shape,
or form in any form of "expression," be it in speech or writing, whether in
