I've heard and seen these used interchangeably and/or "incorrectly" since
the '40's, together with "jury-rig"/"jerry-rig," "jerrican"/"jerry-can,"
and a host of others, like "bestiality"/"beastiality," "a dracula," a
"frankenstein," etc.
