Volume VI of DARE has a page of nicely contrastive maps for terms for small streams:

Branch: chiefly South, South Midland
Brook: Originally chiefly New England, now widespread but especially Northeast
Creek: widespread except New England
Crick: especially Inland North, North Midland, West
Run: scattered, but chiefly western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland
