Dear AN-LANGERS,
The last message I wrote was intended for Joel, not AN-LANG. It was about
tracking down a lost book at UH Press, so please delete it (only UH Press
would be able to answer it).
In the spirit of the ongoing discussion, I am sending you some
Malagasy idioms based on the word "crocodile" which we can all use to
spice up our cocktail party conversations:

These are from the word mamba (borrowed from Bantu-- the Austronesian
equivalent is VOAY).

antAna-mAmba 'fallen into the hands of a cruel person (tanana -
have)
fihi-mAmba 'refusal to let go of something' (fikitra - grasp)

	And here's one using VOAY:

Tsy ny voay no masiaka, fa ny aomby tia amoron-drano.
It's not the croc that is fierce, but the cow craving the water's
edge. (People should be punished for breaking the rules).

	HAPPY THANKGIVING EVERYBODY!!!

	Carl
