Among the many people who replied to let me know that the list is
working fine -- thank you all -- was Takeshi Ishizawa. Apparently no
one answered the question repeated below. Can someone please help?

Subject: "batik" has proto-Austronesian origin ?

Dear all,

Please tell me the origin of the word "batik", Indonesian textile.
I had read that "batik" origin is a proto-Austronesian word, *baTik,
means "lay on colors".
Is that true ?

Thanks in advance,

ISHIZAWA Takeshi
