15-ICAL – 2021: Fifteenth International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics (15-ICAL) – Third Call (extended submission deadline)
June 28 – July 2, 2021

The Department of Asian Studies at Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic) will host the 15th International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics, which will take place from June 28 to July 2, 2021.

Call for individual papers

Scholars are invited for 20-minute talks (plus 10 minutes for discussion) on any aspect of language or linguistics specifically related to Austronesian languages.

Abstracts should be submitted as pdf on the 15-ICAL Easychair submission website: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=15ical<https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=15ical>.

Several travel grants will be made available to students whose abstracts have received the highest recommendation. Students who wish to be considered for such travel grants should indicate this in their submission. Travel grant recipients will be required to submit a full version of their paper before the conference.

In addition, there will also be a student poster session which will allow students of Austronesian linguistics to present the results of their research.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per author. Abstracts should be single-spaced, 12-point font and limited to two A4 (or US Letter) pages with 1-inch or 2.5-cm margins on all sides (including data, figures, and references). Authors’ names should not appear (on the abstract itself), but the abstract should include a title.

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:

  *   Individual paper
  *   Poster

All questions about submissions should be emailed to 15ical AT easychair.org.

Important dates

Extended deadline for individual abstract submission: February 28, 2021

Notification of acceptance for individual abstracts: March 31, 2021

COVID contingency plan

15-ICAL will be organised in the chosen term in either hybrid or online mode, respecting the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control regulations which will be in force at that moment. Regardless of the travel restrictions in force at the moment of the conference, all accepted papers, regardless of the mode of presentation, will be allotted a time slot. Papers presented in the online mode will be given the same level of technical support as papers presented in person. We have purchased a license from the Virtual event platform Whova https://whova.com/ and have tested it in November with great success. We have experienced that despite the general zoom fatigue the Whova platform can offer an excellent substitute and support the community to get together.

Participants will be regularly informed about the situation via the conference website (https://indoling.com/ical/15/15-ical-covid-information/) and other usual channels.

Venue

The conference will be held at the Department of Asian Studies, Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic. Some details about the venue and the city can be found here: https://indoling.com/ical/15/venue/

We hope that despite the current challenges created by the coronavirus outbreak we will be able to organize the conference in the usual in-person format. However, the final decision about the format will be made closer to the conference date in the autumn of 2020 so as to accommodate potential travel restrictions and social-distancing rules, as well as the preferences of the conference participants.
