The work in question sounds like the PhD dissertation of Zeinab Ibrahim
of the
American University in Cairo, which she completed at Georgetown.
(1999?)  If
you can't find it, I have a copy at home (I'm writing from my office).
She
also has a short paper published in one of those AUC compilation volumes
in
which she summarizes the work.

I can always ask her for the full reference if you can't find it (are you
reading this, Zeinab?).

I am myself doing some work in this regard, along the lines of the
regional
variation in technical terminologies.
