POSITION IN ARABIC
         The Department of Asian & African Languages & Literature at Duke
University invites applications for Assistant Professor of the Practice
in
Arabic language and literature/culture to begin fall 2003. Native or
near
native fluency in modern Arabic is required. Applicants must have a
commitment to teaching language. The desired specialization is in modern
(18th century until today) Arab cultural studies. The successful
candidate
will be expected to teach courses in her/ his area of expertise and
also to
engage in interdepartmental conversations both within and beyond  Asian
&
African Languages & Literature as well as to participate in the
department's core curriculum. The Ph.D degree is required. Applications
should include a curriculum vitae and the names, addresses and
telephone/
fax numbers of at least three scholars who can provide academic
references.
