Subject:UC-Santa Barbara Job

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA BARBARA seeks to appoint a full-time  
tenure-track Assistant Professor in Arabic Language, beginning July  
1, 2006. Appointment will be in a humanities or social science  
department or departments related to the candidate's area of research  
expertise; teaching and research will take place in the context of a  
thriving interdisciplinary community that includes a Middle East  
Studies Program and a Center for Middle East Studies.

Qualifications include Ph.D., native or near native command of  
Arabic, ability to teach Arabic at the intermediate and advanced  
levels, at least one year of teaching Modern Standard Arabic as a  
foreign language at the university level, and a serious commitment to  
Arabic language pedagogy at both undergraduate and graduate levels.  
Candidates should have an ancillary research specialization in a  
related field in the humanities or social sciences. Teaching  
responsibilities include three quarter courses of Intermediate or  
Advanced Arabic language, plus two additional quarter courses (one in  
Arabic and one in English) related to the candidate’s area of  
research specialization or in Middle East Studies.

Applicants should submit a letter addressing their qualifications and  
approaches to teaching Arabic language, their scholarly interests,  
curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference to: Arabic Search
