Assistant/Associate Professor of Arabic Studies, United States Air  
Force Academy, Colorado


The Department of Foreign Languages, United States Air Force Academy  
in Colorado Springs, Colorado has an opening for a fulltime position  
of Assistant/ Associate Professor of Arabic beginning in the Fall of  
2007. Primary duties include teaching and developing courses in multi- 
level Modern Standard Arabic to undergraduates in a variety of  
academic majors including Foreign Area Studies with Middle East  
focus. Qualifications for the position include the Ph.D. in Arabic  
Language and Culture, Applied linguistics, Foreign Language  
Education, Instructional Technology, Arab-Islamic Studies. The  
successful candidate will possess a proven current record of  
scholarship in the relevant field and dedication to teaching  
undergraduates, in addition to native or near native speaker  
abilities in Arabic (MSA and a spoken Arabic dialect), and experience  
in Communicative Language Teaching, materials development and  
performance assessment.  Familiarity with the ILR / ACTFL scales of  
language performance assessment, Computer-Assisted languages learning  
and teaching, the national standards of language learning is highly  
desirable. This one year appointment is for an endowed chair position  
in Arabic Studies, and will most likely be extended to two years.  
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. U.S.  
Citizenships is required.

The Air force Academy, which is located in the beautiful Front Range  
region of the Rocky Mountains, approximately one hour south of Denver
