Subject: etymology of Zaabalawi

Some of you may be aware of a short story by Naguib Mahfouz entitled "Zaabalawi," which is about a mystic of that same name. I'm particularly interested in the etymology of the name Zaabalawi for a project I am doing.

I've heard that it can be used as a nickname or a surname, but I am curious about its origins. If anyone had any insight to share, I would be extremely grateful.
