Islamic Studies (Assistant Professor)

The Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of California,
Berkeley, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in
Islamic Studies to commence July 1st, 2012.  While area and period of
specialization are open, the successful candidate must be equipped to train
graduate students in the classical Islamic textual tradition and to provide
broad-based courses on Islam to non-specialist undergraduates.  The
department is interested in candidates who have the communication skills and
cross-cultural abilities to maximize effective collaboration with a diverse
community of campus and external colleagues. Please submit a letter of
application, three current recommendations, a curriculum vitae, and a
writing sample of no more than 20 pages to:  Islamic Studies Search
Committee, University of California, Department of Near Eastern Studies, 250
Barrows Hall, Berkeley, CA 94720-1940.  Kindly refer potential referees to
