Solicitation for Position:“Technical Escort for Egypt STM Teacher Training”

World Learning, a global non-profit organization,
(www.worldlearning.org<http://www.worldlearning.org>) seeks an
Egyptian national or Egyptian-American to serve as Science, Technology
& Math (STM) Technical Escort for a USAID-funded “U.S. Based Training
of STM Professionals”. The location will be Philadelphia with a
possible 2 to 3 day visit to another city and STM school. Expected
duration - one month broken into 2 two week segments.  Recruitment
contingent upon successful award of the project.  Please transmit CV

Background: This short-term training program aims at building the
knowledge and capacity of a group of 25 Egyptian educators (teachers,
administrators and mentors) of the recently established STM High
School for gifted students in Cairo. This program will bring these
participants to the U.S. for training in two groups, lasting two weeks
each. Participants will have the opportunity to observe
State‐of‐the‐art teaching, learning, management, and administration of
successful Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
Schools in the U.S. It will also build their capacity through
classroom training in STM teaching and learning, visits to highly
performing STM schools, shadowing of school administrators, teachers
and technicians, and learning about continued professional development
and teachers’ preparation of STM educators. In addition, the
participants will learn about the role of civil society, universities
and research institutes in improving quality and relevance of STM
education in the U.S.
Technical Escort, U.S. Based Training of STM Professionals
Reports to:  Program Officer and three STM co-directors
Job Purpose:
The Technical Escort will accompany participants to help clarify
technical aspects of the training program and provide required
information as needed. This person will work in collaboration with the
Program Officer and a team of three STM co-directors to assist in
solving issues as they arise.
Responsibilities:
*         Help design and lead pre-departure technical orientation workshop
*         Accompany participants to all appointments, meetings, and
training sessions including possible travel to neighboring states
*         Participate in  guided reflection with participants on a daily basis
*         Add clarity on technical aspects of STM education
*         Connect participants with relevant people and resources
*         Help design and lead re-entry technical workshop for
training participants
Preferred Qualifications:
*         Knowledge or experience in STM education and/or STM school
administration
*         Sound understanding and perhaps working knowledge of
education in Egypt
*         Excellent cross-cultural training and facilitation skills
*         Capable of responding quickly and professionally to
programmatic and cultural challenges
*         Fluency in both written and spoken Arabic
 *   Egyptian national or Egyptian-American
 *   Prior teaching experience in both Egypt and the U.S.
