At the end of August, in Aberystwyth, I heard several papers given by
Hildegard Tristram and her Finnish co-workers.

Her suggestion was an intriguing one - that British speakers rapidly shifted
to OE, creating a community of L2 learners of OE. These speakers learned the
OE lexicon, whilst their resulting non-standard variety of OE had a number
of British morphosyntactic characteristics, and this variety of OE persisted
and spread into the rest of the OE-speaking community over time.
