Pulling clauses like gems?

Hello, 
I have a set of transcripts that are already marked for clauses using the 
[^c *] method. I need to get type data for a specific type of clause that 
we have coded. Is there a way to pull those clauses into a new file in 
order to run freq on that file? Or is the only way to run freq on these 
clauses to recode each clause as a gem and then do gemfreq?
