Safari authentication

Dear Info-CHILDES and ChiBolts,

Apple has decided to no longer support BasicAuth authentication in its Safari browser for cross-origin subresources. This is the form of authentication on which we have been relying for playback of video material in the TalkBank browser. Without this authentication Safari just lets you play audio. Fortunately, Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers have not yet taken this step and they work fine. However, once Apple sets a precedent, others will follow. We had already sketched out plans to replace BasicAuth with a more powerful authentication system and we will now be doing this sooner rather than later.
