Klahowyam, Friends,

Looking at a book written for fairly advanced juvenile readers, "Indian
Country:  Inland Northwest Native People" by Henry L. Reimers ('Homestead
House', Spokane, WA, 1987)...

you'd get the impression that the Spokanes spoke Chinook Jargon and taught
it to the whites who came to settle in this region.  Just the kind of
thing you must be wary of.  To repeat myself, CJ wasn't a major presence
around here, by all the evidence I know.  And the Spokanes, um, had their
own language.  Further, any CJ that was learned here was perhaps taught by
whites, more than to them.

It's good to be able to see which books are not reliable sources,
entertaining though they may be.
