In Brian Patrick O'Donoghue's book about his experiences racing in the
1991 Iditarod, he lists the commands given to sled dogs - Gee, Haw,
and "Hike, hike, hike" - the latter term he suggests means to go.

I wonder if this "hike, hike, hike" is actually "ayaq, ayaq, ayaq" or "hayak,
hayak,hayak?"

Gee means to turn a team right, and Haw turns them left - as in a team of
horses; but the use of "hike, hike, hike" isn't of equine or ox team origin
from what I can tell.
