Redbone "Potlatch"

Well, here's a chance to consult _The Encyclopedia of Native Music_ by Brian Wright-McLeod (University of Arizona Press, 2005), a recent acquisition. According to their article on Redbone, the brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas are Yaqui-Shoshone (though they grew up around Fresno, California), Tony Bellamy is Yaqui, and Pete DePoe was "born Last Walking Bear, Neah Bay Reservation, Washington...had learned the drum at ceremonies and powwows, then later moved into contemporary percussion". Confusingly, though, the list of the original lineup at the head of the article identifies DePoe as Cheyenne!?? Oh well. Despite the loose ends it's a useful book.

Yes, Pete DePoe was a Makah and a tribal drummer. Dunno where Anthony
Bellamy etc were from or what their tribal affiliation was. Their only
UK hit was Witch Queen of New Orleans.... - we didn't get Niki Hoeky.

On the best radio station in the world (WFMU of course), I just heard a
song by the early-1970s band Redbone titled "Potlatch". After a bit of
googling, I found that one of the band members was from Neah Bay.
