Herron, Joseph S.  Explorations in Alaska, 1899, for an All-American 
Overland Route from Cook Inlet, Pacific Ocean, to the Yukon.  American 
Anthropologist, New Series, Vol. 3, No. 3. (Jul. - Sep., 1901), pp. 547-
548. 

He says that just as the "Chinooks" once knew Americans only as "Boston", 
for the tribes in Alaska "Seattle" = USA.  I guess those original Puget 
Sound settlers should have named their place "Boston Alki".
