Corpora: Named Entity Recognition Software

Hello All,

I am looking for freely available Named Entity Recognition
software and was hoping that list members might be able to
help me with specific recommendations or advice on where
to look.  I am particularly interested in NER tools that are

capable of classifying Named Entities by type (eg. Person,
Organization, Location etc).

Should I receive a deluge of replies, I will post a list on
the
newsgroup.
