The Department of Computational Linguistics at Saarland University,
Saarbr�cken, Germany, invites applications for a scientist position
("Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter") in Semantics, starting at October
1st, 2006. The duration of the post is 3 years; extension is possible.


Applicants should hold a PhD in Computational Linguistics or a related
field and demonstrate a strong background in Natural Language
Processing and especially Computational Semantics.


Saarbr�cken University is one of the leading European research sites
in Computational Linguistics and offers an active, stimulating
research environment. Close cooperations exist with other disciplines
(esp. computer science and artificial intelligence). The institute is
committed to excellence in teaching, offering an international MSc
program and hosting the International Post-Graduate College in
Language Technology and Cognitive Systems.


The successful candidate will contribute substantially to ongoing
research activities in the Semantics group as well as participate in
developing future research directions. Possible areas of investigation
include: data-driven semantic processing; deep semantic modelling and
inference; semantics in NLP applications. The candidate will also
participate in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level
(teaching load: 4 hours/week) and student supervision.


Salary and social benefits are according to Germany's public sector
BAT IIa scale, currently between 2900 and 3800 Euro per month (before
taxes), depending on age and family situation. Saarland University
aims at increasing the proportion of women in academic research and
teaching, and encourages women to apply.
