The third CLARET postgraduate workshop on corpus compilation and annotation will take place at Lancaster University, 31 March - 1 April 2008.

Workshop details:
CLARET is a new national research training programme in corpus linguistics running in the UK from November 2007 to June 2008. It is open to doctoral students whose work involves the investigation of large amounts of electronically-stored language data. CLARET is a collaboration between the Universities of Birmingham, Lancaster, Liverpool, Nottingham, and Reading and is funded by award 07/01/N under the Arts and Humanities Research Council's Collaborative Research Training Scheme.

The focus of the Lancaster workshop will be on corpus compilation, modes of corpus annotation, statistical approaches to corpus data and will address these issues for non-English and historical corpora in addition to the traditional focus on modern corpora of English. 

The workshop will take place on March 31st and April 1st at the University of Lancaster and will consist of presentations, seminars and a hands-on session. 

Confirmed speakers include: Geoffrey Leech, Costas Gabrielatos, Andrew Hardie, Tony McEnery, Nick Smith, Andrew Wilson, Dawn Archer, Paul Rayson and Paul Baker.

Contact Information:
Each CLARET workshop is limited to 30 participants, with priority given to AHRC-funded doctoral students. There is a small fee of £10 per workshop for participants from partner institutions, and £40 per workshop for participants from other institutions. A subsidy is available towards participants' UK travel and accommodation costs for each workshop. In order to apply for a place, please download an application form, complete it and email the result to Sarah Brown (sarah at comp.lancs.ac.uk) at Lancaster University by 15th February 2008.
