I think you just forgot to quote the phrases (googlefight.com doesn't seem to be very intelligent about this). If I enter

	"depends of" vs. "depends on"

the latter is much more frequent.  Web1T5 tells the same story, even without the quotes:

	http://cogsci.uos.de/~korpora/ws/cgi-bin/Web1T5/Web1T5_freq.perl?query=depends+[on,of]&mode=Search&optimize=on
