We wish to appoint a Research Associate with expertise in Natural language Processing or Computational Linguistics as part of an interdisciplinary team working on a major Digital Humanities project bringing together staff from the Department of History, Department of Linguistics & English Language, and the School of Computing & Communications (SCC) at Lancaster University.  The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and is working on analysing texts from a geographical perspective. Your role will be to provide computational linguistics expertise and support to this.

You should have a first or master's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Digital Humanities, or a related field; and preferably a PhD and/or post-graduate research experience in the area of corpus-based analysis and/or natural language processing. You should also possess suitable software development skills and demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team as well as the capability to integrate diverse multi-disciplinary requirements into the design of the natural language processing tools to be developed.

The post is a fixed-term appointment at 1.0 FTE from 1 January 2013, or as soon as possible thereafter, for 18 months.
