[Corpora-List] Fully-funded PhD Position (Heidelberg, Germany)

The Database Systems Research Group at the Institute of Computer
Science at Heidelberg University, Germany, has an open position for a
PhD student (full time, salary scale TV-L E 13, 3 years) in the field
of Text Mining, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing.

The goal of the PhD research is to develop novel methods and techniques
to analyze manually annotated temporal phenomena such as temporal
expressions and relations, but also shiftings in time in diverse types
of text documents, e.g., in narratives and literary texts. Using
different machine learning and text mining techniques, patterns of
temporal phenomena and correlations are to be identified and rules in
support for (semi-)automatic annotation are to be derived. The research
is conducted in the context of a BMBF-funded project in a
multidisciplinary team (Computer Science and Literary Studies) of 
researchers
from Heidelberg University and the University of Hamburg.

The successful applicant has
- a master degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or 
related area
- has completed the master degree with excellent grades and possible 
publications
- a strong background in machine learning, text mining, and natural 
language processing
- good programming skills (e.g., Java, Python, Matlab)
- Excellent English language skills (written and spoken)
- Good German language skills
- Good communication skills
- The capability to work independently as well as in a team
