The *Department of Computational Linguistics*

at *Heidelberg University* announces open positions for

*                Computational Linguists*

The openings are for two *PhD candidate researchers *and*one PostDoc 
position *in the
*Computational Linguistics research group* of*Prof. Dr. Anette Frank.*

The Computational Linguistics Department at Heidelberg University hosts 
a young and dynamic
team conducting cutting-edge research in Natural Language Processing. 
With three full
professorships, a growing number of PhD students and researchers the 
department is one of the
important centres of Computational Linguistics in Germany.


Research in the Computational Linguistics group focuses on *corpus-based 
statistical methods
for semantic natural language processing*. Topics include multilingual 
lexical semantics and
knowledge acquisition, discourse-level semantic processing and NLP 
applications built upon
these methods.

*PhD positions.* We are looking for young, enthousiastic researchers 
with a strong research
potential. Candidates should have interest or previous experience with 
research in
distributional semantics, discourse-level NLP processing or text mining.
Prerequisites are a bachelor/masters/diploma degree in Computational 
Linguistics or related
fields. We expect a solid background in statistical NLP methods, machine 
learning and
corpus-linguistic analysis techniques, very good programming skills, and 
demonstration of a
clear research potential.
Candidates will actively participate in the *joint ICL/HITS PhD program 
'Semantic Processing'*
(http://www.cl.uni-heidelberg.de/semproc).

Salary:/ according to German scale TV-L 13 /2 (half-time position)/
Duration:/ initially two years with possible extension/
Starting date:/ October 1^st , 2013

*Post-doctoral position.* The post-doctoral researcher holds a PhD in 
Computational Linguistics
or related fields and has demonstrated high-quality research in 
statistical Natural Language
Processing. The successful candidate has a very good background in 
statistical NLP and machine
learning, excellent programming skills and a proven publication record. 
The person holding
this position participates in the research of the group and conducts 
independent research
related to the group's research themes. /

/Salary:/ according to German scale TV-L 13/
Duration:/ initially two years with possible extension/
Starting date:/ October 1^st , 2013

All positions involve two hours (PreDoc) or four hours (PostDoc) of 
teaching per term in the
department's Computational Linguistics Bachelor and Master Programs, and 
participation in
administrative duties. Next to English, a good command of German is 
required.
