Open position in project MT4M - Machine Translation for Microblogs
One research grant for Master Students (Bolsa de Investigação para Mestre BI-M) is now available in project MT4M (CMUP-EPB/TIC/0026/2013), funded by the National Science Foundation in Portugal (FCT), as part of the Portugal | Carnegie Mellon Program. 

Scope:  Project MT4M aims to develop state of the art technologies for Machine Translation in Microblogs, such as Twitter and Facebook. Therefore, methods must be developed in the scope of the open position to address the unpredictability and originality of text in this environment. Topics include normalization techniques to convert the input into more standard forms, the usage of continuous space models that are more robust to word variations and the development of MT evaluation techniques suited to this domain. 

Required education Level and research experience: The candidate should have a Masters (mestre) degree on Electrical and Computer Engineering or in Computer Science, with certified qualifications on machine translation (MT) technologies. 

Workplace and scientific supervision: The activity will be supervised by Prof. Isabel Trancoso, coordinator of the project MT4M. The grantee will be integrated at the Spoken Language Systems Lab of INESC-ID. The project will have as partners Carnegie Mellon University, represented by Prof. Chris Dyer, and Unbabel, represented by Dr. João Graça.

Duration: 10 months, from January 2015.

Application Dates: From November 10 to November 30, 2014.
