Addition to Zouhair Maalej's list of classic works on advertising:

Leech G (1966) English in Advertising. London: Longman

This work is obviously dated and now reads as startlingly sexist - i.e. it
is of its period - but it is one of the earliest books on this subject and
has been highly influential.

Also, see Greg Myers (199?) Words in Ads. Afraid I haven't the full
reference. I don't know this book, but as it is by Myers, it is bound to be
good.
