CALL FOR PAPERS for the PANEL SESSION

ARGUMENTATION: COGNITIVE OR DISCURSIVE?

As part of the 7th INTERNATIONAL PRAGMATICS
CONFERENCE organized by the International Pragmatics
Association (IPrA), to be held in Budapest, Hungary, 9-14
July 2000.

The PANEL SESSION on ARGUMENTATION:
COGNITIVE OR DISCURSIVE? is an initiative to bring
together linguists, cognitive scientists, argumentation
theorists, rhetoreticians, philosophers, sociologists, etc.,
attending the 7th International Pragmatics Conference for a
specifically-focused forum to discuss the pragmatics-related
aspects (but not just these) of the relation between
argumentation, language and cognition.

The PANEL SESSIONS on ARGUMENTATION:
COGNITIVE OR DISCURSIVE? will be held in the
PARALLEL SESSIONS slot(s) of the 7th IPrA conference
program. The final number of the PANEL SESSION units on
ARGUMENTATION: COGNITIVE OR DISCURSIVE? will
be determined by the number of contributions accepted for
presentation. The maximum number of contributions to the
panel is twelve (for a total of three units).
Within each panel unit a maximum of four 15-minute
presentations are given consecutively, followed by a
minimum of 30 minutes of discussion (either devoted entirely
to an open discussion, or taken up in part by comments by a
discussant or discussants).
Written versions or extensive outlines of all panel
contributions should be made available to the other
contributors to the panel prior to the conference to facilitate
discussion.

I invite you to submit your panel contributions to the PANEL
ORGANIZER (address below) by november 5, 1999. All
panel contributionss will be subject to anonymous review.

Paper submissions for panel contributions should contain:
1. an e-mail version (word and/or rtf) of the one page
abstract, to be sent to Igor Z. Zagar
(igor.zagar at guest.arnes.si);
2. 10 (ten) hard-copy versions of the one-page abstract,
TOGETHER WITH A PRINTED, HARD-COPY
VERSION OF THE IPrA OFFICIAL SUBMISSION
FORM, to be sent (or faxed) to Igor Z. Zagar at the
