Hi,

I am a Jamaican student studying 15th-17th century Spanish literature at the University of Camridge, and torn between two loves (linguistics and literature).

My primary interest in linguistics lies in the field of Creolistics/Creole linguistics, but I am becoming extremely awareof fresh new areas in what literature calls culture studies, and there is a scarcity of discourse studies in this area. I might focus on Jamaican dancehall music which has received a lot of heat in Jamaica, but is receiving a lot of acclaim and critical attention outside.

My research will take me into the interface between discourse, pragmatics, syntax, phonology, and morphology, and a comparative/contrastive look at the language of the music vs. the Creole language in Jamaica.
