The Science and Art of Language Teaching (SALT) Conference

20-22 November 2006

Bay View Beach Resort
Pulau Pinang
Malaysia

The Science and Art of Language in Teaching International Conference is a platform to
bring together local and international academicians, educators, planners and teaching
professionals to exchange views and insights on current practices and future directions on
the science and art of language in teaching. It will be the stage for discussions in the
areas of language, content, information and communication technology, curricula and
materials design, testing and evaluation, and translation in teaching language courses as
well as teaching content courses in another language. Attendees will have excellent
opportunities to meet colleagues from Malaysia and from other parts of the world during
the Conference. The papers accepted and presented at the Conference will be collected for
formal publication.

We are actively seeking papers, short communications, interactive posters, workshops and
tutorials to address the interests and needs of participants at a variety of levels. We
would like to "tap into your talent" and encourage you to share your experience, knowledge
and information with your colleagues at the Conference.

We invite proposals within the Conference Theme Areas with a strong focus in this year's
conference theme in the following categories:

Papers
A paper is normally a report of a finished or near finished research study and the
original work of the author(s) proposing. Papers can take two major forms: Reports of
empirical investigations, or reports that are not based on empirical research.

Short Communications
Short communications (Short Papers) are suitable for reports that do not fully meet the
requirements for published papers.

Interactive Posters
Posters, as an alternative to short communications, are also suitable for reports that do
not fully meet the requirements for published papers.

Workshops
A workshop should provide reflective and/or practical, hands-on learning experience for
professional development. Workshops involve the actual doing of a task, or series of
tasks.

Tutorials
Presenters are expected to clearly demonstrate good practice or innovative materials
design. The presenter can demonstrate a project or practical language teaching or content
teaching idea that the participants can make and take with them.
