A humanistic pitch for languages

LANGUAGE learning should be promoted for global citizenship, not just for economic reasons in the Asian century, according to Australia's arts deans.



"Language learning, regardless of language, has a significant impact on general literacy, cultural awareness, understanding and communication," Krishna Sen, president of the arts deans, says in a letter to Asian century minister Craig Emerson.
