*Language Learning and Special Education*

The UMBC TESOL program is offering the online summer course *Language
Learning and Special Education *(EDUC 689).  It is open to educators and
graduate students.  Apply by May 15th.  See details below and the flyer

This three-credit graduate-level course is an introduction to relationships
between special and bilingual/English learner education.  Topics covered
include

   - Theories, Methods and Techniques for Working with Dually Identified
   Special Education and English Language Learners
   - Specific Issues Faced by Second Language Learners in Special Education
   - Collaborative Models, Adaptations, and Modifications of Classroom
   Lessons and Materials
   - Interventions, Case Studies, and Best Practices for Classroom Lessons


*About the Instructor*
Marybelle Marrero-Colón is a professional development content manager for
the Center for Applied Linguistics with 33 years of experience as an
educator, inclusion specialist, program coordinator, administrator, and
professional developer.  She holds an M.A. in Bilingual Special Education,
and an M.S. in Administration & Supervision with a specialty in
professional development.


*Course Dates and Format*
The course runs from June 1 to August 20.  The format is asynchronous and
allows for a flexible weekly study schedule.

Educators and graduate students should apply by *May 15th* as a

*Cost*
Cost for this three-credit graduate course varies by in-state and

*UMBC TESOL Program*
The UMBC TESOL program offers a master's degree and postbaccalaureate
certificate that can be completed fully online, on campus, or in a
